George Desser

Thank you for visiting; Anchor House needs your support.

“There is a fear so real that a child believes it is safer to live on the street than at home.” Because of this on July 8th I will be boarding a bus to McHenry, MD, to participate in The 39th Annual Anchor House Ride for Runaways.

This will be the 8th year when I take a weeks vacation to participate in the Anchor House Ride For Runaways. Knowing how much I like to ride, friends are not surprised that I am planning on riding 500 miles in 7 days; I’ve done it before. However, why this ride? Why spend all the extra time training, as well as attempting to raise the necessary funds to participate? I have but one answer, it is for those children that need Anchor House and the Love and Hope they find there.

Anchor House was founded in 1979 to provide emergency housing, food, clothing and hope for runaway and homeless youth, ages 10 to 17. The shelter provides for the immediate needs of runaway and homeless youth, while seeking to reunite youth with their families, strengthen family relationships and help youth decide on a constructive course of action. Services are available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

At the same time those dedicated volunteers founded the shelter in 1979, a small group of equally dedicated bicyclists started the “Ride for Runaways” to raise the funds needed to keep the doors of Anchor House open. Please consider supporting the kids of Anchor House with a donation. Now, more than ever the kids need us. I will be bicycling for 7 days in the heat, rain, or whatever the weather offers. With approximately 185 other riders we will be climbing mountains and peddling 70 plus miles per day. While it will be a challenging week, it is a very challenging daily existence for the kids of Anchor House.

Please make a donation so that Anchor House, Inc. can continue their mission to work with abused, homeless, runaway, at risk and aging out youth! Together we can make a difference.

This year I have set a special goal for myself. I have had one of those Milestone Birthdays. My fundraising goal (when you drop the zeros) indicates that Milestone.

Thank you very much for your kindness - George
